Tasks
The position is associated with the research group “Development in Childhood and Adolescence with a Focus on Emotional and Social Development,” led by Prof. Dr. Sascha Hein. The research group is characterized by interdisciplinary and innovative approaches to the empirical research of the social-emotional development of children and adolescents. A particular focus is on research on early childhood education and development in humanitarian contexts, primarily in international collaborations (including with colleagues in the USA and Arab countries) and with the help of quantitative research methods. The transformative potential of early childhood development and education for social cohesion and sustainable peace is a central focus of the research conducted by Prof. Hein and his colleagues. In addition to basic research, applied research and strategic action research also play essential roles. The position provides prospects for further academic qualifications and offers the opportunity
to pursue a doctorate (Ph.D.).
Job description:
Participation in research, teaching, and examinations in the field of development in childhood and adolescence with a focus on emotional and social development
Participation in research in international networks and consortia (e.g., the Early Childhood Peace Consortium, www.ecdpeace.org) and with international non-governmental organizations (e.g., International Rescue Committee, Save the Children)
Participation in the acquisition and implementation of third-party-funded projects
Teach courses in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in special education
Supervision of students

Requirements:
Completed academic university degree (Master, Magister, Diploma, State Examination) in
psychology, pedagogy (e.g., special education), educational or social science
Desirable:
Readiness and strong motivation to conduct research in one of the following areas:
Promoting social and emotional skills, especially in early childhood (0-8 years), through formal (e.g., school) and non-formal (e.g., parenting and family programs) education
Education and development of children and young people in humanitarian contexts and crises (Education in Emergencies)
Development of social and emotional skills of children and young people in marginalized and precarious living situations
Experience in working in international contexts (e.g., working in or with international non- governmental organizations)
Interest in translating research results for strategic influence on political actors and stakeholders
Good knowledge of quantitative research methods and statistics
Very good written and spoken English skills
Good written and spoken knowledge of at least one other working language of the United Nations, preferably Arabic or Spanish
Independent work and personal commitment
