PROJECT MANAGER

The Mahler Chamber Orchestra (MCO) was founded in 1997 based on the shared vision of being a free and international ensemble, dedicated to creating and sharing exceptional experiences in classical music. The core of the orchestra consists of 50 members spanning 25 different countries. The MCO is governed collectively by its orchestra board and Berlin-based management team; decisions are made democratically with the participation of all musicians. The orchestra works as “global collective”, which comes together in Europe and worldwide for its tours and projects. The MCO has, to date, performed in over 40 countries across five continents.
Main Responsibilities
As Project Manager, you are responsible for the realisation of the MCO’s concert projects. The Production department works closely with the Finance and Artistic Planning departments, as well as with the Managing Director and Orchestra Board. Your responsibilities include:
Coordination with musicians (orchestra members, soloists, conductors), promoters, agencies and further service providers
Preparation of contracts for orchestra musicians
Review of social security documents and visa requirements
Tour management and accompaniment
Follow-up of orchestra tours, in particular: accounting of orchestra musicians, conductors, soloists and further artists as well as service providers in coordination with the Finance department
Preparation and organization of auditions
Experience, skills and competences
First work experience, ideally in the classical music field
Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and German – any other language is a plus
Strong IT skills (including fluency in Microsoft Office, especially in Excel)
Ability to work independently and also as part of a team
Methodical, analytical and structured work style, problem-solving oriented, hands-on mentality
Friendly and enthusiastic personality
Interest in working internationally and readiness to travel regularly (including weekends and public holidays)
