    Intro

    The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at the University of Hohenheim is looking to fill a position for a Postdoctoral researcher to contribute to the project "Bright Spots in Agriculture – Learning from Today's Models for a Sustainable Future (BRIGHT-Futures)."

    Tasks

    • Independently carry out cutting-edge interdisciplinary and solution-oriented research on sustainable agricultural systems.
    • Collect secondary spatial data and carry out spatial analysis mapping Bright Spots.
    • Contribute to the design and execution of field studies in the four case study regions collecting biodiversity, ecosystem function and socio-economic data.
    • Develop and deepen networks with local partners in case study regions.
    • Contribute to supervision of MSc and PhD students.
    • Discussing, integrating, and sharing results with project partners.
    • Attending regular project meetings and workshops.
    • Lead the writing of scientific publications, as well as contribute to other research outputs, e.g., reports, and communication/engagement materials for local actors.
    • Potentially contribute to teaching in the Department 430c (equivalent to a teaching load of 2 SWS).

    Requirements

    • A PhD in geography, ecology, interdisciplinary environmental sciences, agricultural sciences or related field.
    • Strong interest in sustainability issues as they pertain to agricultural systems.
    • Good understanding of agricultural and/or socio-environmental systems.
    • Experience with interdisciplinary research.
    • In-depth knowledge of theories, frameworks and methods from at least two different disciplines or from a – per definition - interdisciplinary field.
    • Strong analytical skills.
    • Existing knowledge of multiple comparative and/or interdisciplinary quantitative scientific methods, e.g. GIS, remote sensing, land cover mapping, experimental design, field sampling, carbon measurements, farmer surveys, statistics.
    • Knowledge of R, as well as spatial analysis software (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS).
    • Strong collaborative skills and interest in working with an interdisciplinary and international project team.
    • Excellent command of the English language (written and oral).
    • Commitment to contribute to a positive work environment and group learning processes.
    • Organizational skills and ability to work independently.
