    FIZ Karlsruhe – Leibniz Institute for Information Infrastructure

    FIZ Karlsruhe – Leibniz Institute for Information Infrastructure is one of the leading provider of scientific information and services and a member of the Leibniz Association. Our core task is the professional support of science and industry with research and patent information as well as the development of innovative information infrastructures, e.g. with a focus on research data management, knowledge graphs and digital platforms. For this purpose, we conduct in-house research, cooperate with renowned universities and research associations and maintain an international network. FIZ Karlsruhe is a GmbH (a limited liability company) with a non-profit character and one of the largest non-university institutions of its kind in Germany.

    In the Mathematics Department at our Berlin site, we primarily develop and operate zbMATH Open, a freely accessible, international information service with more than 4 million bibliographic records, reviews and abstracts, and thus networked information on mathematical topics, persons, publications, references research data and software. In order to further develop our information services for mathematics, we are working with our project partners in the Mathematics Research and Projects department to develop innovative tools for the indexing and retrieval of mathematical information.

    Starting at the nearest possible date, we are looking for a

    PhD/Junior Researcher or PostDoc/Senior Researcher (f/m/x)

    for the Mathematics Research and Projects Department in Berlin

    In the DFG-funded consortium, Mathematical Research Data Initiative (MaRDI), Germanys' leading mathematics research institutions united to build a one-stop portal that provides access to research data relevant to mathematics research. This includes datasets like arXiv, Wikipedia, zbMATH Open, the Digital Library of Mathematical Formulae, MathOverflow, and the Online Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences.

    Particular tasks within the MaRDI project will be:

    • Design and implement new approaches to Mathematical Information Retrieval based on current trends in computer science research including information retrieval, artificial intelligence, and big data processing.
    • Contribute to implementing the MaRDI portal, the one-stop portal for mathematical research data. The MaRDI portal is based on a customized version of the Wikimedia technology stack.
    • Disseminate your results to the benefits of other disciplines in the National Research Data Infrastructure and related initiatives.

    Your qualification:

    • Studies in the field of Computer Science or equivalent qualification
    • Experience in professional software development desirable
    • At best, you could already make contributions to Open-Source-Software
    • Awareness of code quality and good knowledge of coding best practices
    • Experience with PHP, Media Wiki framework, Linked Open Data (i.e., SPARQL) are desirable
    • Experience in graph databases is a plus
    • Very good ability to work in a team
