    PhD Student*in (gn *) Biology oder (Bio-)Medicine

*PhD Student (gn ) Biology or (Bio-)Medicine

Fixed-term of 3 years | Part-time with 65% | Salary grade 13 TV-L | Project of translational PET/CT and PET/MRI imaging of the tumor microenvironment | European Institute for Molecular Imaging (EIMI) | Job ID: 10200

We are UKM. We have a clear social mission and, with our focus on healthcare, research, and teaching, we bear a unique responsibility.
To meet our high standards every day, we are looking forward to your scientific expertise in the group of Prof. Philipp Backhaus and Dr. Florian Büther, which is embedded both in the inter-faculty European Institute of Molecular Imaging, University of Münster, and the Department of Nuclear Medicine, UKM. Our research focuses on molecular and functional in-vivo imaging of the immune system in cancer and inflammatory diseases. We are particularly interested in evaluating novel and translational methods for imaging of the tumor microenvironment. We aim to establish novel micro-PET/CT and -PET/MRI approaches targeting crucial cellular components of the tumor microenvironment in small animal tumor treatment models and evaluate these by state-of-the-art cytometry and microscopy techniques. Eventually, we want to pursue translating these approaches to PET/MRI and PET/CT scanning in patients. This position will be part of the DFG Clinical Research Centre (CRC) 1450/inSight (“Multiscale imaging of organ-specific inflammation”), project B06, and will be additionally part of the recently established junior professorship group “Imaging Host Responses”. Thus, the position is integrated into a highly interdisciplinary team encompassing physicists, chemists, biologists and physicians – ideally with you on board!

    What we expect:

    • Master’s degree in biology or biomedicine (finished no longer than 2 years ago)
    • Strong interest in cancer models, in-vivo imaging techniques such as PET and MRI and ex-vivo cytometry and microscopy techniques
    • We encourage applicants with a broad analytical interest, as the job holder will contribute both to the development of new methods and their application to investigate preclinical disease models as well as clinical problems
    • Oral and written communication skills – English (required) and German (desired)
    • Willingness to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team

    What we offer:

    • Career development in a multidisciplinary and committed research team, co-supervision by highly qualified biology postdoc group member Dr. Cristina Barca
    • A broad education and training in the structured graduate program of our highly interactive consortium (CRC inSight)
    • State-of-the-art imaging equipment including Bruker 7 T small animal MRI with PET insert, 3 T Siemens mMR clinical PET/MRI scanner, to be installed clinical total body PET/CT, a sophisticated radiochemistry unit and a well-equipped biology lab

For inquiries, please contact Prof. Dr. Philipp Backhaus, T 0251 83-44738.

Apply now via our career portal until 12.02.2025 including**:**
    • Cover letter describing your research interest and why you are suitable for the position (maximum 1 page)
    • CV including a list of relevant publications
    • Copy of the official academic transcript of your degree or a letter stating when your degree will be obtained Names, e-mail addresses, and telephone numbers for academic references/recommendation letters
