Two Max Planck Research Group Leaders (m/f/d)

    Scientist Bad Nauheim

Developmental and Evolutionary Biology & Genetics Immunobiology and Infection Biology & Medicine Physiology

    Job Code: 2024_11

Job Offer from October 15, 2024

The Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research in Bad Nauheim (near Frankfurt, Germany) invites applications for two Max Planck Research Group Leaders (m/f/d), ref. number 2024_11.

The Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research in Bad Nauheim (near Frankfurt) is a leading international research institution with a focus on molecular organ biology. While cardiovascular and pulmonary biology is of special interest, several other research subjects are being investigated. The institute has a history of more than 90 years. Since its re-founding in 2005, our major goals are to investigate cellular and molecular processes in organ development as well as under pathological conditions in vitro and in vivo.

The institute’s research includes three departments (directors: Thomas Braun, Didier Stainier and Stefan Offermanns) and currently two independent research groups. Research is supported by scientific core facilities including Imaging (microscopy, MRI, µCT), Sequencing, Mass spectrometry, Flow cytometry, and Bioinformatics. Our central animal facility has strong expertise in mice and zebrafish.

The Max Planck institute for Heart and Lung Research is deeply imbedded in the local biomedical research community and has close and well established cooperations with the nearby universities in Frankfurt and Gießen. In addition, we have strong national and international cooperations and networks, including the Excellence Cluster “Cardiopulmonary Institute”, DFG-funded Collaborative Research Centers as well as German Health Research Centers (DZHK and DZL), etc.

As part of this program, we are seeking outstanding scientists at the beginning of their independent career with a passion in cellular and molecular mechanisms of organ biology. We encourage applications from interested scientists who want to develop their own independent research program within an exciting, supportive and international research environment.

Successful candidates will lead a Max Planck Research Group for a period of six years with the possibility of extension (three years). The Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and the Justus Liebig University in Giessen envision to later establish two professorships in this field under their proceedings.

Funding includes the group leader position (equivalent to an assistant professorship) as well as additional research positions, a budget for consumables, and a start-up package. These funds can be expanded by attracting external/third-party funding.

    Applications should include

    • a cover letter explaining your motivation to apply for this position,
    • a Curriculum Vitae including publication list,
    • a statement of scientific achievements (~500 words),
    • and a two-page summary of your future research plans (~1000 words)

Applicants need to arrange for two (or more) letters of recommendation to be submitted directly by the referees to ****@m**-**n.mpg.de. We encourage applications from female scientists. Successful candidates will be invited to a symposium in Bad Nauheim at the end of January or beginning of February 2025 for final selection.

The Max Planck Society is committed to increase the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals. Furthermore, The Max Planck Society strives for gender and diversity equality. We welcome applications from all backgrounds.

Please send your application in a single PDF file (CV-publications-achievements-plan), no later than December 08, 2024 via our online application portal.

Informal inquires can be sent to: ****@m**-**n.mpg.de
