This position is with the Global Strategic Communications Council (GSCC), a global network of communications professionals in the field of climate, energy and nature. GSCC is a programme hosted by the Meliore Foundation.
The position is a parental leave cover for at least 15 months. This role offers a unique opportunity for an individual with an established interest in German politics and climate issues to work with a talented team and play an active role in helping speed up the low carbon transition in Germany as well as across Europe and on a global level. Depending on your experience and skill set, the position could be classified as either Senior Associate or Associate.

How you'll contribute
At the Senior Associate level, you'll take on more responsibility and work with greater autonomy. You'll have the opportunity to apply your extensive experience and expertise to drive our strategy, solve problems, and provide guidance and support to others.
At the Associate level, you'll provide valuable support within the team, working under guidance. You'll contribute to key tasks with support from your supervisor or team members.
In close cooperation with the Germany team, the (Senior) Associate, Strategic Communications, Germany, will be responsible for:
- Design and deliver strategic communications interventions across media spheres in Germany with the aim to prevent backlash and boost national climate action
- Shape and amplify newsworthy media stories from across the global network in line with the team’s communications objectives using timely, targeted messaging tailored to resonate with local audiences; monitor impact and outcomes
- Develop and maintain trusted relationships with key journalists and editors across mainstream and specialist media in Germany
- Deliver strategic advice, communications and outreach support to partners, ranging from NGOs and academics to businesses; identify new voices
- Coordinate communication efforts and liaise with various international teams and colleagues on shared projects and outputs
- Ensure communications materials such as press releases, op-eds and social media content are of the highest quality
- Closely follow the political and media debates in Germany to identify opportunities for engagement and act as a source of intelligence for colleagues and partners around the world
- Any other duties to be assigned from time to time.
Our ideal candidate has
- Professional experience in journalism, campaigning, or communications, ideally with a track record of impactful media relations in Germany
- Ability to turn complex topics into compelling media stories and narratives
- A good understanding of political dynamics and debates in Germany required; specific knowledge in climate, energy, and specific sectors desired
- Strong diplomatic and networking skills that enable effective collaboration with a diverse group of partners
- Outstanding German and English language skills, with proven ability to produce engaging and impactful communications materials in both languages
- High level of self-motivation, independence, and can-do mentality
- Team player with the disposition to work generously with colleagues in a high-trust and values based global community of peers. International experience is a plus
- Versatility and agility to flourish in a fast-paced and multifaceted work environment and work across time zones based on phone/video conferencing, Slack, email, etc.
- A genuine interest in the mission and values of the organisation and a commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach to facing climate change
