    The Director is responsible for stewarding Callie’s, a non-profit artist residency in Berlin. The role encompasses strategic planning, budgeting, fundraising, and running the day-to-day operations on-site, including overseeing a small team of staff members. The Director will collaborate closely with the Artistic Director and the Deputy Director. The ideal candidate is a great communicator, is comfortable taking initiative and working independently and collaboratively, has experience managing staff, and is fair, thoughtful, and energetic. This role is permanent, full-time (40/hours a week), and in-person.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Strategic Leadership and Institutional Development

    • Lead the institution’s strategic direction, aligning with its mission.

    • Develop and implement a strategic plan detailing objectives and budgets.

    • Establish partnerships and collaborations that enhance Callie’s program resources.

    Budgeting and Fundraising:

    • Oversee the institution’s economic sustainability by identifying, securing, and maintaining funding sources, focusing on creating a sustainable future for the residency in a transitional funding climate.

    • Develop and execute fundraising strategies.

    • Manage budgets and prepare annual budget projections in partnership with the Office Manager.

    Operations:

    • Manage the institution’s day-to-day operations in collaboration with the deputy director.

    • Provide strong leadership to the team of approximately 4 employees, conducting regular performance reviews (with the support of the deputy director).

    • Recruit team members when necessary.

    • Oversee the institution’s communications, including written and visual content, ensuring they align with Callie’s ethos.

    Residency:

    • Oversee the residency application selection process, including managing other readers.

    • Ensure the program maintains the highest standards in artist selection.

    Visibility and communications:

    • Speak at public and private events.

    • Build relationships with art industry professionals, artists, and the wider cultural community.

    Required skills and qualifications:

    • Proven experience in fundraising, team management, and leadership.

    • Exceptional communication, writing, and editing skills in English (native-level preferred).

    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize, and delegate.

    • Experience working with artists.

    • Budget management and financial planning skills.

    • Strong network in contemporary art.

    Preferred Skills:

    • Experience in publishing, editing, writing, or someone with a natural talent for language.

    • Experience working in a non-profit, such as a museum, residency program, or other initiative.

    • Basic proficiency in German is desirable.
