    Civil Engineer*in (f/m/d)

    The Vacancy

    Start of employment: February 2025, at the latest by June 2025
    GITEC-IGIP’s Health and Social Infrastructure (HSI) Department manages diverse international projects in the transport, health and education sectors. We have projects for example in rural infrastructure development, hospital rehabilitation and construction, and vocational training/university campus development.
    GITEC-IGIP’s services span the full project cycle, from project identification, feasibility studies and design to procurement and tendering, construction supervision, operation and maintenance, and project performance monitoring and evaluation. Furthermore, our services cover a broad field of technical assistance and capacity building. Our core strengths are in the supportive, experienced and cross-disciplinary teams of specialized professionals.
    To complement and strengthen our HSI team GITEC-IGIP is looking to fill a permanent full-time Civil Engineer position at its headquarters in Cologne, with regular visits to our overseas projects. As a member of the HSI team you will have exposure to a variety of projects of varied scale & complexity, tailored to meet your experience and preferences. The work in firsthand will be carried out from our headquarters in Germany, with visits to project sites. But, depending on your interest and preference, you will have the opportunity to work in our projects on short-term or long-term expert positions. Currently, we have an urgent need for a Resident Engineer for the Rural Development Programme Phase IV (RDP IV), Houaphan Sub-Project, in Lao P.D.R., which is envisaged from December 2025 to June 2026, tentatively. Your interest to take over this position as your first abroad assignment would be very much appreciated.

     Main Duties in the Position at Headquarters in Cologne

    In this position, you will be responsible for technical expert input, project acquisition and technical and organisational coordination, including result monitoring. And you will be involved in guidance and training of local or international staff. This will include:

    • Regular contact with national and international stakeholders
    • Liaison with potential partner companies
    • Contact with expert staff regarding international and national assignments
    • Participation in the preparation of various phases of proposals for publicly funded projects
    • Reporting, quality assurance, monitoring
    • Coordination with GITEC-IGIP departments both in Cologne and abroad

     Required educational background

    •  B.Sc. (or higher) in civil engineering

    Required expertise / profile

    • Full fluency in English, German is a plus.
    • Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in road construction
    • At least 1 project as Civil Engineer/ Resident Engineer in rural infrastructure projects
    • Regional experience in South-East Asia would be an asset
    • Experience in (technical and financial) management of international projects
    • Very good communication and report writing skills
    • Knowledge of the development cooperation sector and publicly funded project landscape is an asset (e.g. KfW, EU, GIZ, World Bank, etc.).
    • Willingness to work on a permanent basis in Cologne/Germany and on short-term or long-term resident assignments in our overseas projects
