Your tasks
- Assembly of NGS short read data (reference based), calling and filtering of variants, quality assessment of variants and informativeness
- Phylogenetic and phylogeographic analyses of NGS data sets
- Detect selection, especially in genotype-phenotype-interactions related to wing patterns of moths.
- Analysis of variants to detect signals of introgression and hybridisation with a focus on data from historic DNA
- Readiness to adapt analytical methodology to NGS-short read data from historic DNA, testing of sample quality and informativeness with respect to sample age
- Publication of results in high profile scientific journals
Your profile
- PhD in biology, bioinformatics or a related discipline
- Internationally recognized research and publications
- Experience in handling high-throughput short-read data incl. quality control and reference-based alignment
- Experience in variant calling, filtering, analyses
- Experience in handling genetic data from scientific collection material
- Professional in data management (incl. backup plan)
- Practical knowledge of NGS data deposition in public databases
- Excellent team worker
- Excellent communication skills in English (spoken and written)
- Highly motivated, keen to take the initiative and to contribute, and with a strong sense of responsibility
Experience in the following areas is desirable
- HPC job submission/module handling
- Hybridization inference
- Use and expansion of analytical pipelines for NGS data for historic DNA
- Comparison of variant data sets of samples of different ages (time slices)
- Genotype-phenotype correlations such as GWAS
- German language skills
