Intro
The Helmholtz Centre Potsdam - GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences is seeking a PhD Fellow in Soil Environmental Biogeosciences to study microbial movement during mineral weathering in soils. The research will focus on laboratory-based experiments using transparent soil systems to analyze the impact of microbial movement on global biogeochemical processes. The position offers training in experimental design, molecular microbial methods, and imaging techniques, as well as opportunities for interdisciplinary teamwork and professional development. Tasks
- Conduct laboratory experiments using transparent soil materials in microfluidic microcosms
- Localize nutrient elements dissolved from minerals within adjacent fungal and bacterial cells
- Publish research findings in international peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific conferences
- Capacity for interdisciplinary and international teamwork with excellent communication skills
Requirements
- PhD in Environmental Sciences, Geosciences, Microbiology, or related field
- Experience with genetic and microscopy data analysis
- Knowledge of molecular microbial methods and imaging techniques
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary and international team
