Intro
The Associate Director, Head of Language Services at EBRD is responsible for leading the language function at the Bank, managing translation and interpretation services, and ensuring effective communication in multiple languages with stakeholders. The role involves overseeing a team of language professionals, managing external suppliers, and providing expert advice on language policy and translation practices. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in translation and interpretation, experience in managing diverse teams, and a deep understanding of multilateral organizations.
Tasks
- Lead the implementation of the Bank’s language policy
- Oversee and direct the translation, interpretation, and verbatim reporting functions
- Advise senior management on language and translation policy matters
- Manage staff recruitment, compensation, performance management, and development
- Develop annual work plans and oversee external suppliers
- Plan and implement translation, interpretation, and reporting services for events
- Build networks with specialists in other organizations for innovation
- Drive development of new processes and products for language services
- Translate and revise complex legal, financial, and politically sensitive texts
Requirements
- University degree and post-graduate qualification in interpretation/translation
- Perfect command of one of the Bank’s languages and excellent knowledge of English and another Bank language
- Proven experience in managing diverse language teams
- Strong leadership, people management, and teamwork skills
- Extensive experience in translation and interpretation with international organizations
- Top-quality translation skills in technical, legal, financial, and politically sensitive areas
- General understanding of EBRD mandate and organization
- High political and cultural sensitivity and awareness
