    The Hertie School in Berlin prepares exceptional students for leadership positions in government, business, and civil society.     We are looking for a

    Student Research Assistant - Digital Law and Energy (gn)

    part-time, 10 hours/week. The contract shall commence as of 01 February 2025. The successful candidate will be part of our Data Science Lab and Centre for Sustainability, and work on the AI-EFFECT project. AI-EFFECT will establish a European Testing and Experimentation Facility (TEF) for artificial intelligence (AI) applications in the energy sector. The 3-year project is implemented by a consortium, consisting of 19 leading European organizations under the coordination of EPRI Europe. The project is supported by the European Union’s Horizon Europe program.

    Your tasks:

    • Conduct research on the regulatory enablers and barriers of machine learning applications in the energy sector
    • Support the AI-EFFECT project with digital law and governance expertise
    • Support stakeholder management and communications within the consortium

    Your profile:

    • Undergraduate degree in fields relating to public policy, digitalization, or the energy sector.
    • Proficiency in academic research and writing.
    • Experience in European digital law, including but not limited to the General Data Protection Regulation, the Digital Services Act, the Digital Markets Act and the AI Act.
    • An interest in machine learning technology and deployment (experience is a plus).
    • An interest in power systems and energy law and business (experience is a plus).
    • Ability to work independently, show initiative, and be a team player.
