The Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy e. V. (ATB) is a pioneer and driver of bioeconomy research. We create scientific foundations for the transformation of agricultural, food, industrial and energy systems into a comprehensive bio-based circular economy. We develop and integrate techniques, processes and management strategies, effectively converging technologies to intelligently crosslink highly diverse bioeconomic production systems and to control them in a knowledge-based, adaptive and largely automated manner. To support our team in the program area of individualized livestock production we are seeking for a

Student assistant (m/f/d)

We develop digital tools for automated, animal-specific data collection, evaluation and prediction of infectious diseases of the udder (mastitis) in dairy cows. In this way, we support animal health management in the complex biological systems of dairy farming. New possibilities in the application of machine learning (AI) allow us to use the increasing amount of data collected at dairy farms. The data from dairy cow herds that are relevant for animal health management must be regularly evaluated and interpreted after linking them to the respective operational conditions. For this purpose, we are looking for a committed student assistant who is interested in participating in our research projects.

Your responsibilities

• Assistance in data extraction and analysis
• Assistance with app development
• Optional: Scientific Writing (Master's/Bachelor’s thesis & publication)

Your qualifications

• You are studying Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Digital Farming, Bioinformatics, Biology or similar
• Knowledge in statistical data analysis
• Experience with the programming language Python
• Fluent in English, both spoken and written (German is beneficial)
• Structured and responsible way of working, commitment and ability to work in a team
• Optional:
• Driving license (class B)
• Experience with software development, especially app development

This position consists of a working time of 9 hours per week (mini job) and is limited for 12 month, with the possibility of extension. The remuneration is 13,25 € / hour or 13,83 € / hour with a Bachelor’s degree. Due to tariff increases the remuneration are subject to change.
