    The Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, Leibniz-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik (FBH) is an application-oriented research institute in the fields of high-frequency electronics, photonics and quantum physics. It researches electronic and optical components, modules and systems based on compound semiconductors. These devices are key enablers that address the needs of today’s society in fields like communications, energy, health, and mobility. It covers the entire value chain from design to ready-for-delivery systems.

    Our Joint Lab Quantum Photonic Components is world-leading in developing compact and robust diode laser modules for quantum technology applications, e.g. in space. We are currently looking for a scientific employee (m/f/d) for the areas of (i) design and development as well as (ii) hybrid microintegration and characterization of GaAs diode laser devices and modules.

    Your tasks

    one or several of the following tasks:

    • Development of highly complex diode laser modules and their components in cooperation with our partners using CAE methods
    • Microintegration of highly complex diode laser modules and their components with ultra-precise robots and involvement in the continuous development of the robotic integration environment
    • Characterization of the electro-optical performance of diode laser devices and modules as well as their components using measurement methods customized for the application requirements and involvement in the development of new measurement methods

    Your profile

    • Diploma or Master's degree (university) in a subject such as physics, physical engineering, photonics, microsystems technology, electrical engineering (specializing in optoelectronics), mechanical engineering or a comparable university degree
    • Independent and very precise way of working
    • Communication and teamwork skills as well as a high degree of self-initiative
    • Very good written and spoken German and English skills
    • Experience in at least one of the following areas is also required:
    • Theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the development and/or use of lasers for scientific or telecommunications applications
    • Knowledge in the fields of laser theory and technology as well as optics
    • Experience in CAD/CAE (mechanical, thermo-mechanical, optical, electrical)
