Fachbereich Physik - Institut für Experimentalphysik AG Weinelt

The AG Weinelt studies ultrafast dynamics in quantum materials initiated by ultrashort optical laser pulses. This includes single and collective quasiparticle dynamics to unravel signatures of non-equilibrium dynamics and phase transitions in the transient electronic structure. We have a strong background and reputation in state-selective and spin-sensitive time- and angle-resolved photoemission techniques. Beyond our laboratory-based research, we established new experimental infrastructure at the FemtoSpeX Slicing beamline of the Synchrotron Source BESSY II (Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin) and are building a new end station for FLASH. With this new state-of-the-art experimental equipment for time-resolved X-ray scattering and absorption we study state- and element specific dynamics.

    Tasks

We are searching for a Postdoc in the field of Ultrafast Science, who is experienced in the Generation of Higher Order Harmonics and their application for time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy. Your area of responsibility involves to maintain, further develop, and supervise a project on ultrafast spin and carrier dynamics in magnetic systems. The current setup consists of a 10 kHz – 2 mJ femtosecond laser source (KMLabs Red Dragon and OPA+DFG) and a hemispherical electron analyzer for time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy. You are willing to work in a team including PhD and Master students and supervise their thesis works. You are welcome to actively participate in other research activities of our group, e.g., beamtimes at large-scale facilities, such as Free Electron Lasers. You will become an associated member of the CRC/TRR 227 Ultrafast Spin Dynamics and of its Graduate School. You are willing to participate in the subordinate teaching of the department with 4 semester hours per week. The position serves the scientific qualification in the field of research and the acquisition of skills in the field of ultrafast carrier and spin dynamics in solid state materials.

    Requirements

    Requirements:

    Doctorate in Physics

    Desirable:

The desired qualifications of the applicant include relevant experience in the following subject areas: Experiments with ultrashort laser pulses, higher-order harmonic generation, time-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, ultra-high vacuum technology, construction and operation of a measuring apparatus for photoemission.
