We Are Hiring – Project and Grant Development Officer

    See job description

The Jewish Digital Cultural Recovery Project (JDCRP) Foundation is seeking a Project and Grant Development Officer to join our team, starting as soon as possible. This is a limited-term contract through May 2025, with the possibility of extension depending on funding availability.

    About Us

The Jewish Digital Cultural Recovery Project Foundation, founded in 2019 by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (Claims Conference) and the Commission for Art Recovery (CAR), is based in Berlin, Germany. The foundation is creating and populating a central scalable digital data repository for archival source material on the cultural plunder conducted during the National Socialist regime. In addition to the data repository, the JDCRP digital platform includes research and education projects that demonstrate the use of archival material in reconstructing the theft, as well as recalling the lives and cultural contributions of European pre-WWII Jewry. State-of-the-art technology is supporting the development of cross-archival links and improved search capabilities across various databases on objects, owners, and perpetrators, thereby revealing for the first time the full scope of the plunder to the extent possible. The archival project uniquely targets both specialists and the general public.

    Role Overview

The Project and Grant Development Officer will play a vital role in managing, submitting, and overseeing grants while ensuring compliance with funder requirements. This includes facilitating communication with donors, partner organizations, and internal teams to ensure alignment between project objectives, grant stipulations, and finances.
This role requires strong bilingual communication skills (German and English), with a background in fields such as art history, archives, or Holocaust studies being highly desirable.

    Responsibilities

    Donor and Partner Relations:

    • Research and identify potential funding sources (public and private), initiating contact where appropriate.
    • Help build and maintain relationships with existing and future donors, funders, and partner organizations in coordination with the Executive Board.
    • Prepare and organize relevant internal and external meetings with foundation entities, donors, and partner organizations.
    • Provide updates to the Executive Board and relevant stakeholders.
    • Maintain detailed records of donor interactions and transactions.

    Grant Development and Administration:

    • Collaborate with the Executive Board and team to design, plan, and submit grant applications.
    • Act as the primary liaison with grant administrators, ensuring smooth communication and compliance.
    • Monitor grant goals and deadlines, ensuring timely submission of reports and any necessary adjustments.
    • Plan and oversee the work required for submissions, reporting, and communication with funders and partners.

    Project Oversight:

    • Ensure alignment between project activities and grant objectives, timelines, and budgets.
    • Regularly review progress and report to the Board, recommending mid-term adjustments if necessary.
    • Facilitate collaboration between project leads and the Foundation’s finance officer to ensure budget compliance.

    Internal Development:

    • Support the Executive Board with administrative tasks related to strategic planning and organizational growth.
    • Ensure internal operations meet grant requirements and support the JDCRP’s mission.

    Qualifications:

    • Proven experience in grant writing, development, and project administration in a non-profit or similar sector.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
    • Flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a small team where collaboration and initiative are key.
    • Bilingual fluency in English and German, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Knowledge of Holocaust studies, art history, or archival research is highly preferred.
    • Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
    • Collaborative and proactive work style, with a commitment to integrity and transparency.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with grant management software and tools.

    What We Offer:

    • A key role in a dynamic, international non-profit organization, ideally based in Berlin.
    • A limited-term contract through May 2025, with the potential for extension based on funding availability.
    • Flexible working hours, including options for remote work.
    • Competitive remuneration aligned with comparable NGO positions.
    • The opportunity to contribute to a meaningful mission alongside a motivated interdisciplinary team.
