Einführung
The Helmholtz Centre Potsdam - GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences is offering a Postdoctoral position in electron microscopy of mineral-microbe interfaces. The selected candidate will focus on using scanning electron microscopy to analyze mineral-microbe interfaces in samples from aquatic biofilms and soils. The position involves contributing to projects within the Horizon Europe infrastructure program and developing research directions in biogeochemistry, geobiology, environmental mineralogy, or geochemistry. Strong emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary teamwork, career development, and publication of research findings.
Aufgaben
- Use scanning electron microscopy to image/analyze mineral-microbe interfaces in samples from aquatic biofilms and/or soils
- Contribute to projects within the Horizon Europe infrastructure program
- Employ electron micro-spectroscopic characterization tools to derive knowledge about complex mineral/microbe interfaces in Earth materials
- Develop own research directions
- Lead to publications and career development
- Co-supervise postgraduate students
- Develop 3rd party funded proposals
- Apply scanning electron microscopy sample preparation and analysis methods to study interfaces in geo(bio)materials
- Research reactions and interactions between minerals and microbes in aquatic biofilms and/or soil matrixes
Voraussetzungen
- Master's and PhD degree in biogeochemistry, environmental mineralogy, or equivalent
- Experience in electron microscopic characterization
- Capacity for interdisciplinary and international teamwork
- Excellent communication skills
