Postdoc Paleoclimate modelling (m/f/d)
(Position number: 75-2024 Postdoc Paleoclimate)
starting on 01.03.2025.
The position is funded for 3 years. Remuneration is in accordance with the German public tariff scheme (TV-L Brandenburg), salary group E 13. This is a full-time position with a weekly working time of 40 hours per week. The position can be filled on a part-time basis.
The position is funded via the HorizonEurope project “Past to Future: Towards fully paleo-informed future climate projections”, which will start on March 1st 2025. This large EU project with 24 partners aims at advancing our knowledge of past climatic conditions to better understand Earth’s climate response to different forcings, with considerable focus on potential abrupt climatic transitions.
Key responsibilities:
- Implementation of water and nitrogen isotopes in the fast Earth system model CLIMBER-X, in close collaboration with the University of Bern
- Performing long-term transient model simulations with CLIMBER-X for different time periods of the Quaternary
- Model-data comparison and model calibration based on paleoclimate simulations
Requirements:
- PhD in a relevant subject area (Climate Science, Earth Sciences, Physics or related field)
- Basic knowledge in mathematical modelling, preferably in fields related to climate or environmental sciences
- Experience in developing and running Earth system models on High-Performance-Computers is of advantage
- Experience with paleoclimate proxy data is of advantage
