    The climate needs bright minds. The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) addresses crucial scientific questions in the fields of global change, climate impacts and sustainable development. It is one of the world's leading research institutions in its field and offers natural and social scientists from around the world an inspiring environment for excellent interdisciplinary research. This role will be based in the Berlin office at the EUREF campus in Berlin Schöneberg.

    For the Climate Policy and Development group (RD5) PIK is offering a

    Policy Analyst position Transform (m/f/d)

    (Position number: 88-2024 Policy Analyst Transform)

    in the field of climate policy and development, ideally starting on 01.04.2025.

    The position is funded until December 2027 (end of the project). Remuneration is in accordance with the German public tariff scheme (TV-L Brandenburg), salary group E 13. This is a part-time position with a weekly working time of 32 hours per week.

    The successful candidate will support the team with stakeholder interaction on distributional implications of climate policies in low- and middle-income countries and potential instruments to circumvent unintended impacts. The position includes facilitating policy-oriented dialogue with project partners and other political stakeholders (both in Germany and abroad) to help promoting efficient and equitable climate mitigation solutions. Besides, the candidate will contribute to the maintenance and public communication of the Carbon Pricing Incidence Calculator (CPIC) web tool, which allows stakeholders to assess the distributional impacts of carbon pricing reforms for currently 88 countries.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Translating research results into policy advice;
    • Organizing and conducting stakeholder meetings, particularly focusing on social impacts of climate policy in low- and middle income countries;
    • Project management including coordination with funders and stakeholders as well as project reporting;
    • Coordination with project partners and participation in project meetings;
    • Participation in policy-oriented formats with project partners and stakeholders including presentation of research results;
    • Contributing to the documentation, maintenance and communication of the Carbon Pricing Incidence Calculator (CPIC) webtool and its underlying comprehensive database about households’ consumption patterns and related carbon footprints;
    • Write policy briefs for political decision makers based on scientific evidence and political background briefings for the research group.

    Requirements:

    • Masters in political science, economics, development studies or related;
    • Active interest and experience in policy-oriented stakeholder dialogues and climate policy;
    • Good understanding of empirical methods (causal inference analysis, survey analyses, microsimulation, computational models etc.) and knowledge of R are an asset;
    • Willingness and ability to travel for work 2-6 times per year (project meetings, workshops, conferences), including outside of Europe.
