Einführung
The PhD candidate position at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel involves working on the project 'Towards consistent subgrid momentum closures' within the research unit Ocean Dynamics. The candidate will contribute to evaluating and interpreting ocean models, focusing on scale interactions, energy transfers, and parameterizations for ocean eddies. The position is part of the collaborative research center TRR181 'Energy Transfers in Atmosphere and Ocean' and involves close collaboration with partner institutions. The candidate will also have opportunities for further education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and presenting research findings internationally.
Aufgaben
- Development, adjustment, and testing of ocean model simulations with FESOM
- Physical analysis and interpretation of scale interactions within ocean simulations
- (Further) Development of parameterizations for ocean eddies
- Close collaboration with project partners
- Publication of scientific results in the fields of ocean science in international journals and presentations at international conferences
Voraussetzungen
- Completed (master’s) studies in oceanography, climate science, physics, applied mathematics, or another related field
- Experience in programming (e.g. FORTRAN, Python) and in analyzing and interpreting data sets
- Ability to work in a team, open-mindedness, creativity, and determination
- Very good command of English in speech and writing
