Einführung
The Ph.D. student position in molecular virology of hepatitis B virus (HBV) at Justus Liebig University Giessen involves conducting research on the genealogy of HBV and investigating the host range of different animal and human HBV isolates. The project aims to understand the complexity of HBV evolution and zoonotic potential. The position requires expertise in virological infection assays, molecular biology techniques, and working in a biosafety level S3** laboratory. The successful candidate will have the opportunity for academic qualification and participation in a virological research project within an established working group.
Aufgaben
- Design and performance of virological infection assays in cell culture with different human and animal HBV isolates
- Cloning and production of human and animal HBV genomes and relevant cellular factors of their target cells in vitro
- Investigation of binding, uptake and replication of HBV after infection using biochemical, molecular, and microscopy techniques
- Independent analysis of own experimental results, preparation of scientific talks and papers, and presentation of work at scientific congresses
Voraussetzungen
- Completed Master's or equivalent university degree in biology, biochemistry, medicine, veterinary medicine, or equivalent
- Very good knowledge of biochemical, molecular biological, and virological working methods
- Experience in safe handling of infectious agents, particularly human or animal pathogenic hepatitis B and D viruses
- Motivation, ability to work in a team, active participation in research activities, initiative, and creativity
- Very good English language skills and PC skills
- Documented protective immunity against HBV (anti-HBs titer >100 IU/L)
