About the Role

This role is tailored to a versatile full stack developer with proficiency in both backend and frontend development.
The Impact you can make
You will be a significant contributor to the greenfield development of a web application designed to enable InPlanet to scale operations to billions of tons of carbon dioxide removal. As the second developer in the product team, you will be able to influence the tools and technologies deployed within InPlanet.
Core working relationships
You will work closely with our Head of Product and subject matter experts to create technical specifications for the system, and then turn them into performant, clean, reliable code alongside our Lead Software Engineer.
You will be a significant contributor to the greenfield development of a web application designed to enable InPlanet to scale operations to billions of tons of carbon dioxide removal. As the second developer in the product team, you will be able to influence the tools and technologies deployed within InPlanet.
Core working relationships
You will work closely with our Head of Product and subject matter experts to create technical specifications for the system, and then turn them into performant, clean, reliable code alongside our Lead Software Engineer.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of a greenfield, sophisticated web platform.
- Work closely with the software lead, product owner, senior designer, and key stakeholders in the steering group (internal and external).
- Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code following industry best practices and modern development methodologies.
- Participate in the entire software development lifecycle including design, development, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest software development trends, tools, and technologies, and share knowledge with the product team.
- Work on integrations with internal and external systems and tools.
- Assist with analysis and architecture of upcoming features and the system as a whole.
- Maintain code standards, for instance through thorough and timely code reviews and well-tested code.
- Provide live product support to ensure business critical functions stay running in production.

Core Skills & Experience
- Passion for sustainability, climate change mitigation, and technology-driven solutions for positive impact.
- Strong track record in managing and presenting complex data within web environments, with a portfolio showcasing previous work.
- Around 3-5 years of developing with JavaScript or Typescript in a full-stack context.
- Strong understanding of different data architectures, including SQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, BigQuery).
- Experience creating performant, scalable, and documented RESTful APIs.
- Experience with Next.js for server-side rendering and efficient frontend development.
- Proficiency deploying web applications to a major cloud platform (we use GCP).
Key Qualities
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Able to produce technical solutions in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
Bonus Points (but not essential)
- Experience of Agile working in a startup environment.
- Demonstrated experience with web mapping libraries such as LeafletJS.
- Progressive PWAs or cross-platform app development.
- Familiarity building multilingual applications.
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-code (IaC).
- Familiarity with Python and R, or other programming languages in general.
- Other types of database (e.g. NoSQL, graph-based).

Roughly 6 hours across 3-6 weeks from CV-screening:
- Interview with Talent & People Partner or Head of People (values & motivation)
- Interview with Lead Software Engineer (software engineering, JS/DB, ways of working)
- Successful candidates take home a task
- Final interview (task presentation & live improvement with Lead Software Engineer and Head of Product)
