    Einführung

    The job is for a doctoral student in the field of Mapping Plant Functional Traits at the Chair of Landscape Ecology and Landscape Planning, Institute Landscape Ecology and Resources Management, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Nutritional Sciences, and Environmental Management at Justus Liebig University Giessen. The position is part of the externally funded project Mapping Plant Functional Variation (MapFun) and offers the opportunity for academic qualification. The tasks include field and lab work related to plant functional traits, data analysis, and publication of project results. The position requires a Master's degree in Biology, Landscape Ecology, or similar fields, knowledge of remote sensing data analysis, and proficiency in functional ecology.     Aufgaben

    • Measurement of plant functional traits in the field and a glasshouse experiment
    • Biomass sampling in agroforestry systems
    • Hyperspectral measurements at leaf and canopy level
    • Determination of nutrient contents in plants
    • Processing of hyperspectral and LiDAR data
    • Statistical data analyses
    • Publication of project results in international peer-reviewed journals
    • Provision of academic services

    Voraussetzungen

    • Completed Master's or equivalent university degree in Biology, Landscape Ecology, or similar subjects
    • Knowledge in remote sensing data analysis with free and open source software (FOSS) such as QGIS or R
    • Profound knowledge in functional ecology
    • Experience with drones and drone data analysis is an advantage
    • Knowledge in vegetation analysis with spectral and/or LiDAR data desired
    • Willingness to undertake field campaigns
    • Experience in lab analysis of environmental samples
    • Creative and interested in developing scientific approaches
    • Teamwork skills, good communication, and English proficiency
    • Driving license
