Einführung
DIW Berlin is looking for a Doctoral student (f/m/div) for the Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) starting from October 1st, 2024. This position is suitable for furthering scientific training and is part of a project analyzing the impact of local media on political attitudes.
Aufgaben
- Collaboration in the collection, management and processing of research data including survey data and digital trace data (e.g. social media data)
- Creation of indices on the regional political climate
- Publications in the fields of computational social science, regional inequalities or political science
- Collaboration with the other sub-projects and researchers at the Leibniz ScienceCampus
- Presentation of the project's research at national and international workshops and conferences
Voraussetzungen
- University degree in the field of sociology, political science, statistics, data science or another related field
- Practical experience with R and/or Python
- Experience in analyzing survey data, ideally with SOEP data
- Experience in collecting and analyzing social media data and digital trace data or comparable unstructured data
- Knowledge of methods in the field of natural language processing and 'text-as-data', or knowledge in the field of machine learning or data science is an advantage
- Ideally experience in the analysis of geographic/spatial data and survey data
- Very good spoken and written German and English skills
