Einführung
The GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel is offering a position for a Doctoral Researcher in Computer and Marine Data Science, focusing on the project 'AqQua - Generating an Aquatic Life Foundation Model'. This position is aimed at developing a foundation model for aquatic life observations and will be part of the Helmholtz School for Marine Data Science (MarDATA).
Aufgaben
- Conduct research in the project 'AqQua - Generating an Aquatic Life Foundation Model'
- Develop a foundation model for plankton image classification and trait extraction
- Collaborate with colleagues from GEOMAR, Kiel University, and the Max Delbrück Centre
- Work at the interface between Computer Science and Biological Oceanography
- Participate in research cruises for image acquisition efforts
Voraussetzungen
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Sciences or a related field
- Fluency in spoken and written English
- Experience in software development, preferably in image processing applications, in Python or related programming languages
- Knowledge in Marine Sciences, particularly Marine Biology (desired)
- Experience with neural networks (desired)
- Experience in image processing (desired)
- Ability to work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team (desired)
