Job Opening: Data Scientist AI & Labour Market (m/f/d)

    24. April 2024

We want you to join the AI Labor Markets project team, where your initial focus will be researching talent flows within Europe. This project is supported by a multi-year grant funded by the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung, enabling us to develop a comprehensive understanding of the AI labor market across the continent through both quantitative and qualitative analyses. We aim to provide data-driven policy recommendations to key stakeholders to inform and shape their decisions regarding the AI workforce.

In our past paper on “AI Talent Flows in Germany” we conducted an empirical analysis of the career trajectories of AI doctoral students from German universities to better understand the country's position in the global AI talent landscape. This pilot study underscored the need for further research to enhance support for Europe’s AI ecosystem, suggesting that understanding and improving talent retention could be key to strengthening Germany's position in global AI development.

We are expanding on our previous work with a new data brief titled 'AI Talent Flows: Europe and Beyond,' delving into the migration and distribution of AI talent in Europe amidst global demand. Highlighting Europe's leading per-capita AI expertise, the brief examines challenges in attracting and retaining talent amid intensified global competition since 2015. It focuses on AI professionals' origins, education, and workforce diversity, aiming to inform strategies and policies enhancing Europe's appeal and retention as an AI innovation hub.

SNV as an independent research think tank has consistently delivered cutting-edge policy advice on a diverse range of rapidly evolving topics, including cybersecurity, digital rights, platform governance, and artificial intelligence. Moreover, we actively engage with decision-makers at both the German and EU levels, ensuring our evidence-based recommendations meet the needs of policymakers in a timely manner.

Join us at SNV and be part of a team of experts at the intersection of technology and policy. The successful candidate will initially be offered a two-year contract, with the opportunity for permanent employment thereafter. We are looking to fill the role as soon as possible following the selection of a candidate. The role can accommodate either full-time (40 hours per week) or part-time (80-90%).
