Bachelor Thesis – The Status of Alkaline and PEM Electrolysis: A Techno-Economic Review
Conducting research for a changing society is what drives us at Forschungszentrum Jülich. As a member of the Helmholtz Association, we aim to tackle the grand societal challenges of our time and conduct research into the possibilities of a digitized society, a climate-friendly energy system, and a resource-efficient economy.
Join our team at the Institute of Climate and Energy Systems, Jülich Systems Analysis. We use integrated models to address one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century: achieving a greenhouse gas neutral global energy system.
Your Job:
Hydrogen is considered a crucial building block for the transformation towards a sustainable and greenhouse gas-neutral energy system. Electrolysis is the most relevant option for sustainable and efficient hydrogen production. In this thesis, you will research and compare the current and projected techno-economic parameters of Alkaline Electrolysis (AEL) and Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) electrolysis.
Your tasks include:
- Familiarization with AEL and PEM electrolysis
- Identifying and researching the relevant techno-economic parameters
- Development of a harmonization methodology for the extracted data
- Comparison and visualization of the reviewed data
Your Profile:
You are studying engineering, industrial engineering, energy technology, physics, or a comparable course of study. You should possess:
- An interest in the challenges of the energy transition and its economic consequences
- An interest in electrolyzers and a basic understanding of how they work
- A high degree of independence and motivation as well as the ability to analyze and implement complex issues
- Ideally, first experience in data analysis and visualization
- Very good knowledge of German or English
Our Offer:
We work on cutting-edge innovative topics and offer you the opportunity to actively shape change! You will build deep knowledge of relevant future technologies in what is perhaps the most relevant topic of our century for society: the energy transition. We support your work and career through:
- An interesting and socially relevant topic for your thesis
- A highly motivated, international working group in one of the largest research centers in Europe
- Intensive supervision at a flexible workplace (100% remote work possible)
- Excellent scientific equipment and the latest technology
- Flexible working hours and adequate remuneration
In addition to exciting tasks and a collaborative working atmosphere at Jülich, we have a lot more to offer: https://go.fzj.de/benefits
