UNHCR has relocated several key functions from our Headquarters in Geneva to UN City in Copenhagen, including UNHCR’s Private Sector Partnerships Service (PSP), which supports UNHCR’s growing engagement with the general public and the private sector in all regions of the world.
This maternity cover sits within UNHCR’s Private Sector Partnerships team for Denmark, which was established in 2018. UNHCR continues to scale up its engagement with the Danish private sector, in particular large foundations and corporates, through strong strategic partnerships that involve financial or in-kind support as well as technical collaboration, employee and/or customer engagement, joint advocacy and campaigns or other forms of collaboration.
UN City currently hosts 11 UN organizations with 1,500 staff representing more than 100 nationalities.
Desired Candidate Profile:
We are looking for a creative, results-oriented and engaged team player who will be able to replace our current PSP Associate, for the duration of her maternity leave, to work with existing and new partnerships with leading Danish corporates and foundations.
At a time when more than 114 million people have been forced to flee their home, UNHCR needs the support and commitment of the Danish private sector in strong partnerships that can contribute to creating solutions for refugees.
Based in UN City in Copenhagen, the incumbent will become a part of this exciting work. He/she will help create results that have an impact on one of the most pressing global agendas and have a unique opportunity to develop and strengthen your competencies and professional network in a dynamic workplace.
The still expanding PSP Denmark team currently consists of 10 dedicated colleagues, with 4 persons currently engaged in the efforts relating to corporates and foundations. The selected candidate will work closely with the entire team as well as with global and regional PSP colleagues. The team works in an informal and collaborative manner with a high focus on flexibility and trust.
The position is a temporary role (maternity cover) and would suit both recent graduates or someone with a few years of experience.
Purpose and Scope of Assignment:
Under the supervision of the PSP Officer, the PSP Associate (PPH) will have the following responsibilities:
• Assist with identifying partnership and fundraising opportunities amongst Danish companies and foundations through e.g. research and outreach;
• Draft or adapt compelling partnership proposals, presentations and pitches and participate as needed in meetings with private sector partners;
• Contribute to high-quality and timely reporting to private sector partners in close collaboration with global and regional colleagues;
• Assist with contribution management processes, including drafting compliance screening reports for submission to PSP’s global team and Reporting on and recording of new partnership opportunities;
• Assist with partnership communication through various communication channels, including social media and other digital platforms in Denmark, visibility material at major events etc.;
• Prepare workshops, meetings and networking events;
• Assist with planning and administrative tasks, incl. quarterly reporting, financial management, and management of CRM systems;
• Perform any other tasks, incl. administrative tasks, as required.
Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience required:
a. Education
• Secondary education with preferably a degree in International Relations, Political Science, Communications, Development/Refugee studies or a related field.
b. Work Experience
• Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience with secondary education or minimum 2 years of relevant work experience with a degree (Bachelor’s / Master’s / higher);
c. Key Competencies
Required:
• Excellent communication and presentation skills and experience with strategic communication;
• Fluency in English, with advanced writing and editing skills;
• Analytical, planning and organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize workload despite tight and competing deadlines;
• Strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills and ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders;
• Excellent knowledge of MS Office.
Desirable:
• Solid understanding of the role of the private sector in the humanitarian sphere;
• Fluency in Danish;
• Knowledge about international humanitarian work and strong interest in the refugee cause;
• Experience with working in an international, multicultural environment;
• Experience with administrative matters, incl. budgets, payment requests, CRM systems and planning;
• Experience with graphic design (Indesign, Adobe, etc.).
Location:
The successful candidate will work with the team at the UN City in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Conditions:
This position is associated with a temporary contract, initially issued until the end of the year and with an extension until 30 April 2025 (end of maternity replacement period). It is a full-time role, of 40 hours per week.
The salary is in line with the local UN GS Salary scale.
